My thoughts on books I've read

IT WAS SUCH A JOY TO READ!!! I loved the fact that Elton was so open about things like drug addiction, bulimia, having abusive parents, the various stages in his music career, and finding true happiness. His stories when it comes to marrying David Furnish and the 2 of them starting a family are very awe-inspiring. And I also admire how he stands up for the rights of those who are homosexual and went out of his way to help many who have struggled (and died from) HIV/AIDS. Highly recommend this for any Elton John fan!

I remember first seeing Anthony Perkins in the movie Psycho when I was about 11 years old and the shower scene scared the daylights out of me. But I still thought the movie was a good one. When I just started 6th grade and my teacher told the class that Anthony Perkins died of AIDS, I remember being the only student in the classroom who gave a damn about it. I found it so hard to believe that Anthony was gone. At recess, I hid in a bathroom stall and cried. Someone on Facebook not only sympathized with how I felt about Anthony dying, but told me that I should read this biography on him. So I decided to give it a go. And you know what? I have zero regrets! This biography is so well-written and not in the least bit boring!

What happened to Melinda at a summer party was tragic. Not only did her so-called friend Rachel think she was lying about being raped and only called the police to ask for help, but she and the other students made her feel as if she was a horrible person. I understood her feelings. She wasn't being a tattle-tale, she was only wanting help for what's called sexual assault. High school students can be totally cruel! When I read the part about the 10 lies they tell you in high school, I totally related to this one... "These are the years that you will look back on fondly." HA! As far as I'm concerned, high school was the place I waited years to leave!!!

A great story about a young boy who while struggling to find himself, deals with a rather unstable family. Dad and brother were estranged from him. He also deals with a terrorizing stepfather and doesn't fit in with his stepsiblings. It took getting out, reuniting with his estranged father and brother, bad behavior in school, and even deciding to go into the military to realize where he belongs in the world. A good read for young adults!
